This time
some things went completely different. Because DL2ALF was on a business
trip, the van was organized by Harti, DL6AUI himself on Friday morning. The
loading was done with 2 Persons only which took approx. 2 hours.
On Saturday, Frank, DL2ALF arrived on time, so we could start our trip to
the "Schneekopf" at 0600UT. Just arrived : weather as usual, heavy fog
(visibility < 100m ) and temperature below 10 deg. But no rain! And no
doughnuts (Gerhard, DL2ASI was on a holiday trip)! After feeding our engines
with a small beer unpacking the van went with no trouble at all. Placing the
antennas for 23cm, 13/6cm and 9/3cm in an optimal way reduced the number of
pegs needed and saved OMs'resources...
During the
mounting of our 23cm Equipment the rest of OMs arrived and some minutes later
everyone had his job. We finished setup including the microwave tripod for
10/24/47GHz just one hour before the contest : time for a relaxed coffee break!
The contest
went fantastic. Everything was simply perfect : equipment, skeds, packet radio,
even the weather god was on our side. Though the conditions were marginal on
Saturday and normal on Sunday we achieved our best result scraping the legendary
October '95 benchmarks.
